COS X PHILLIP K SMITH III

i have always been a fan of art installations. art installations
are not just there for the viewer to soak in the artist creation
it is more an involvement into the creation of the artist. it feels like
you become a part of the work maybe even a part of the story.

for this years SALONE DEL MOBILE COS teamed up with
PHILLIP K SMITH III to give us a view of the milanese sky. this mirrored
art installation was set in the historic building of PALAZZO ISIMBARDI that
combines the reflection of sky and this architectural treasure in the middle
of milan. SMITHS idea was to pull the sky down to the ground and make it
present. from the moment you arrive, you are struck by this massive grey concrete exctited
to see what awaits you on the other side. the eager you forget the surroundings
once you hit the mirrors that are beautifully reflecting sky and building.
facing towards the mirrors, walking around the mirrors, seeing yourself in the
mirrors makes you a part of this fascinating installation. every other angle
gives you a different perspective. „open sky is an installation that can never
